Is there a way to compute mean free path subject to energy?

Dear experts,
when we direct a beam of particles(for example electrons) to a target (for example gold )is there a way to plot free mean path of electrons or the cross section of scattering inside the target ,subject to energy of the particles ?

Hello Artemis,

For electrons one can readily extract at most the stopping power via the EMFFIX card with SDUM=PRINT (likewise with the DELTARAY card for hadrons/muons/ions).

For particles undergoing nuclear interactions you will in addition find a table with the mean free path for nuclear elastic and nuclear inelastic interactions in your materials in the output file. Look for the table header “Inelastic scattering length” (split in lines).

With kind regards,

Cesc
