1GeV 56-Fe Ion Flair Simulation

Dear Forum Members,

I have been trying to simulate work done by Luoni et al., 2022 for LiH and HDPE target materials, but my simulations show some discrepancies. I would like to ask your opinion on the physics in the input file and a tutorial/example suggestion for high-energy fe ion simulations, if possible.

There are two ionisation chambers, one right after the pencil beam and the second after the target material. The dose in the ionisation chamber is scored, and the dose rate is calculated as D2/D1 and normalised with no target dose rate. I attached the input and flair files and also a plot for the results I got. Many thanks for your time!

Dear Gokhan,

I think you have an error in your BEAM definition. You specify a 0.8 GeV/u FWHM Gaussian momentum divergence, instead of the 8 mm spatial divergence.

David

Dear David,

Thank you very much! Yes, apparently that was the problem  I have run the simulations, and now the differences from the experimental data are now around/below 1%!! Attached is the corrected plot for users’ reference.

Regards,
Gokhan
