Co60 pulse height spectra using detect scoring

Dear experts,

I tried to simulate pulse spectra of a point Co60 source using DETECT card on a PVT C9H10 material. The counts in pulse height seem to be very small. Can you please guide in this regard?

Co60.inp (1.8 KB)
source.f (9.1 KB)

Dear Riya,

thank you for your question. I will come back to you as soon as possible.
In the meantime, to help me better understand and verify that I’m getting the same results, could you elaborate a bit more on the difference you observed? Are the counts lower than expected taking into account the detector’s geometrical acceptance?

As a side note, is there a specific reason on why using the source routine to simply set the beam position and the isotropic angular divergence? These properties could be respectively set with the BEAMPOS card and WHAT(3)of the BEAM card.

Thanks,
Giuseppe

Dear @gmazzola,

The difference I observed was when I compared the FLUKA simulation results with MCNP simulations performed by others using the same geometry and settings.

Additionally, there is no specific reason for using the source routine at this stage, except that it will later be modified to accommodate multiple sources.

Riya

Dear Riya,

I cannot see anything evidently wrong in the settings of your input file.

From a quick check, very few photons reaches the plastic material you defined and, even fewer deposits their energy in the region. Therefore, the values scored by DETECT are mostly coming from the lower energy electrons stopping in the detector.

As a result, I get from FLUKA a total of 1.41E-1 counts/decay in the target region. Is this consistent with your result?

Cheers,
Giuseppe

Dear @gmazzola ,

Thank you for confirming the input. I am getting 0.10851048 counts/decay in the target.

Riya
