Deuteron beam impinge at the Thorium-232

Dear expert,
I recently simulated deuteron beam impinge at the Thorium-232, in which the following nuclear reaction occurs: 90-TH-232(D,4N)91-PA-230.
Then I calculated the yield of Protactinium-230 in the Thorium target. However, the results given by FLUKA are half of those given by experimental data and PHITS.https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apradiso.2021.109676. I don’t know what went wrong and hope the experts can help me. Attached below is my input file.
Thank you very much.

Dear Keying Zhu,

Apologies for the late reply and thanks for pointing this out.

Indeed, we duly acknowledge the underestimation.

We have meanwhile taken a fairly detailed look at the issue, which appears to be the result of two aspects for your study case: (1) a underestimation of direct compound formation in FLUKA’s deuteron reaction model and (2) when a neutron is stripped to continuum and the remaining proton penetrates the target nucleus, a slightly excessive fission width favors fission a bit too much, instead of further neutron evaporation.

We’ll look further and attempt to address it in view of one of the next releases.

With kind regards,

Cesc

Thank you for your reply , I roughly understand now. Wish you every success in your work.
