Feature to pause simulation execution

FLUKA: 4.5.0
Flair: 3.4-3
Operating system: Almalinux 10

Dear FLUKA experts,

As you know, the MCNP code features a pause-like function that allows the user to save execution information for a specified period, then resume the simulation at a later time. This feature is very useful and practical for the user for long-term simulations. Is there such a feature in the Fluka version I am using? And if there is, please guide me. If not, adding this feature in version 5 or the next versions seems like a good idea.

Best regards,
Mustafa Mohammad Rafiei

Dear Mustafa,

Thank you for your suggestion!
Currently, it is not possible to pause a FLUKA simulation. However, it is possible to stop the current cycle in Flair or using a “stopping file” (See Note 2: 7.22.76. START — FLUKA Manual), and start new jobs/cycles at a later time.

Cheers,
David

Thank you for your guide, but the explanation in the manual is very limited, and I didn’t understand it properly. Please complete the explanation of this feature (stopping file) in the manual, and it would be great if a practical example of using this feature was added to the manual.
Can this feature (stopping file) be used like the ability to pause and resume the simulation from wherever it was stopped?

Best,
Mustafa

Dear Mustafa,

You need to create the fluka.stop or rfluka.stop in the directory where you started the FLUKA simulation.

Or, if you are using Flair you can use the following buttons:

Ok. Thanks.

So, can this feature (stopping file) be used like the ability to pause and resume the simulation from wherever it was stopped? Or not?

Best,
Mustafa

Dear Mustafa.

These will stop the currecly running simulations. Then you can start new jobs or additional cycles.

David
