Description

FLUKA 4-5.2, PRECISIO + EVAPORAT + IONTRANS -2, fission-fragment KE appearing under ‘missing’ rather than ‘nuclear recoils and heavy fragments’ — is this deposited-but-mis-booked or genuinely not deposited? Have tried beams of 1 MeV antiprotons, 100+ MeV protons, and 2 MeV neutrons as the driving source and see the same deficit.

There is no wrong booking nor deficit of energy deposition. What appears as missing energy just reflects the opposite of the Q-value of the nuclear reactions transforming kinetic energy into mass (negative Q value, positive missing energy) or viceversa, like in a low-energy fission event (positive Q value, negative missing energy). It accounts for the unbalance between the initial kinetic energy and the final kinetic energy.
The kinetic energy of fission fragments, made available by means of a negative missing energy, is deposited as dE/dx.
