Production and transport cutoffs for electrons/positrons and photons in PRECISIOn DEFAULTS

Description

Dear Experts,

I am using the PRECISIOn DEFAULTS. I am simulating the energy deposition spectrum for Ba-133 (using ISOTOPE, HI_PROPE, RADDECAY, and DCYSCORE) in a HPGe detector by using the DETECT Card. I am not using any EMFCUT. Looking at the FLUKA Manual, I get the feeling that the production and transport cutoffs for electrons/positrons and photons are calculated based on some factors including the minimum primary energy in the problem. Is that true or the default cutoffs (100 keV) are applied? In my problem, the minimum primary energy is below 100 keV. Therefore, I am concerned about whether suitable cutoffs are calculated and applied or not. The output files indicate that the cutoffs are defined in the Emfcut card. This is misleading as I did not use any EMFCUT card.

I mean, does the user have to always use EMFCUT or is it taken care of appropriately by PRECISIOn?

PS: I used EMFCUT to set production and transport cutoffs for electrons/positrons and photons to be 1 keV (kinetic energy) and almost got the same results as the case when EMFCUT was not used. Therefore, I am almost sure that PRECISIOn does the job correctly, but need a confirmation.

No.

The default PRECISIOn cutoffs are applied and you can read them in the output file, searching for Ecut (given as total energy including the electron mass) and Pcut.

The use of EMFCUT is not compulsory, but in its absence you get the indicated default values, which may or may not fit your problem.

Note that RADDECAY can modify those cutoffs by a scaling factor.
