Release of FLUKA 4.0 and Flair 3.1

A new version of the FLUKA code, FLUKA 4.0, has been released and can be downloaded at https://fluka.cern/download/latest-fluka-release. The new numbering scheme adopted for this release shall highlight a new era for FLUKA, entailing a renewed vision for the code both in terms of development directions and collaborative framework being put in place by CERN.

This new release features a variety of physics developments, including the implementation of anisotropic effects in crystals, charged particle transport in electric fields (in vacuum), electronuclear interactions, and direct (p,n) reactions for multiple isotopes. It offers as well different technical improvements like dynamic memory allocation, the runtime evaluation of parentheses in geometry definitions, and new source options (e.g. multiple beam spots).

Together with FLUKA, a new version of the Flair graphical interface, Flair 3.1, has been released and can be downloaded from the Flair website https://flair.cern. This new Flair version provides in particular many improvements for medical applications as well as a high performance 3D renderer and an intervention planning tool for the calculation of the collected dose in radiation areas.

We would also like to take this opportunity to announce an online FLUKA training to be held over two weeks (for about 4 hours per day), in September-October 2020 (the exact dates are to be defined).
The training will be addressed to FLUKA beginners and will be offered at a reduced fee.

In order to better adapt it to the needs of the user community, we would like to ask you to submit an expression of interest by filling in the form at https://indico.cern.ch/e/fluka-training-survey by July 15, 2020. Please note that this is NOT a registration form and submitting it does not guarantee your participation. Registration for the event will be opened at a later time and announced through the appropriate channels.
