Silicon hardness factors/conversion coefficients for 1 MeV n-eq in silicon

Dear FLUKA Forum,
what are the conversion coefficients for different particles if I scor S1MEVneq currently used in FLUKA

Dear @pwinney,

I am looking into it and will come back to you asap.

Thank you for your patience,
Fran

Dear @pwinney,

Please find below the graphical representation of the used displacement damage cross sections. You can view this graph in context in the Scoring II lecture from the last beginners’ course.

The raw data can be accessed in the data/ directory within the FLUKA installation:

  • sidan.dat for neutrons
  • sidae.dat for electrons
  • sidap.dat for protons
  • sidapi.dat for pions

In the neutron data file, you’ll find the values of displacement damage cross-sections in [eVb]. For the other three datasets, the values are normalized to Dn(1MeV), giving you the 1 MeV neutron equivalent in silicon, so the coefficients are unitless. The file headers may not be very descriptive, so feel free to reach out if you need help interpreting them. Note that all energies in these files are in MeV.

Additionally, when SIMEVNE scoring is requested, the coefficients are printed in the output file (.out) under the “Loading Si-Damage weighting functions” header. Here, the energies are in GeV, and all values are normalized to Dn(1MeV). The data printed for low-energy neutrons (below 20 MeV) follows the old energy group structure. However, the raw data, as mentioned earlier, can be found in the /data directory.

The data sets are used as follows:

  • The neutron dataset is used exclusively for neutrons.
  • The electron dataset applies to both electrons and positrons.
  • The proton dataset is used for all other baryons and antibaryons, including ions.
  • The pion dataset is used for all mesons.
  • All other particles are ignored (i.e., the coefficient is set to 0).

I hope this helps. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions.

P.S. I would like to thank @ceruttif and @gmazzola for the fruitful offline discussion and guidance.

Cheers,
Fran
