Units of NET-CHRG scoring?

Hello all,

After checking the documentation page on USRBIN and this forum, I cannot seem to find what the units are for the NET-CHRG (charge deposition) scoring option. I may have missed it, in which case I apologize. My motivation for scoring this is to determine repulsion effects of structures that become charged by the passage of a beam, if that helps with the discussion.

It’s hard to tell from the output values themselves because of the materials and geometry and my lack of experience with this particular question. Also, do the usual normalization rules apply for a mesh-based point binning and a region-based point binning (e.g., that one must divide the latter by the region’s volume)? It has just occurred to me that this isn’t a track-length binning, so that rule may not apply.

Thank you very much for your time and help!

Dear @Adobe_Achromat,

NET-CHRG is given in units of elementary electron charge.

The volume normalization rules of mesh-based vs region based scoring still apply. They simply come from the fact that FLUKA does not try to calculate region volumes due to the potential complexity of a region, while bin volumes are known.

Hi Roman,

Thank you very very much. I should have checked the generalized particle page… whoops. I’ll remember that for next time!

I also went and re-read the difference between track-length and point scoring (and I suppose I didn’t fully understand the latter, that the integral volume would still be show up in the result and need to be divided out). So, thank you again!
