Upcoming FLUKA Beginners' Online Training

On behalf of the FLUKA Online Training team:

Dear FLUKA users,

We hope this message finds you well.

As you may remember, the pandemic unfortunately forced us to postpone
the announced March 2020 FLUKA Beginners’ School at CERN. In view of the
practical difficulties to hold a course in physical-presence mode, and
of the received survey feedback many of you kindly provided, we hereby
announce the opportunity to participate in an upcoming FLUKA beginners’
training, to be held online via Zoom.

This online training will consist of a series of lectures and exercises,
carefully crafted to allow a novice user to master the basic operation
of FLUKA and its powerful graphical user interface Flair. It will be
assumed that participants are registered FLUKA users at
https://fluka.cern/ and have installed the latest released version of
both FLUKA (4.0) and Flair (3.1) in their machines. No installation
support will be provided during the online training, but technical
questions can of course be addressed to this forum.

Two consecutive instances of the training will be offered so as to
accommodate the largest number of participants and different time-zones:

  1. September 21 - October 2, 3PM-7PM Geneva local time (CEST)
  2. October 5 - October 16, 9AM-1PM Geneva local time (CEST)

The training material and timetable will be identical for both. A fee of
50 CHF will be requested, with an additional fee for commercial users.

The registration page will open in the course of the following weeks
(ideally no later than August 17) and will remain open until the
available places (2x40 participants + a few slots in a waiting list) are
filled. A further message announcing the opening of the registration
and further details will follow in the coming days.

When registering, participants will be asked to indicate their
availability on the two slots mentioned above. Naturally, participants
from the Americas are expected to opt for the first instance, while
participants from Asia/Oceania are expected to opt for the second one.
Participants from Europe and Africa are instead encouraged to provide
availability for both slots in order to maximise their probability of
participation.

Approved registrants will later be given two weeks to complete their
enrolment by paying the registration fee. After that time, applicants
from the waiting list will be given the opportunity to participate.

Stay safe!
