What is the lowest energy of alpha particles in FLUKA?

Dears,

I want to ask two questions about alpha particle simulation:

  1. What is the lowest energy of alpha particles in FLUKA?
  2. What theoretical model is used to simulate it?

Best regards,

Thank you!

Dear Fd Qin,

  1. If PRECISIO DEFAULTS are requested, alpha particles are transported down to 100 keV.
If they generate neutrons, these are transported down to the thermal range (see FLUKA Manual).
You can set a specific energy cutoff for alpha particles using PART-THRes which allows the transport to be performed down to 2 keV.

  2. It depends on the energy range the simulation is performed at and the type of the interaction. (See for instance here for nuclear reactions).

Cheers,
Barbara
